  • Advice needed on modelling a cross section of artery / vein

I have a possible project illustrating an angioplasty.

I need to model and animate a vein/artery cross section which would look something like this:

I have FormZ too but was wondering if it would be better and more flexible to model this cross section in C4D. The fat bulges on the inside of the vein need to be able to be animated to squish back flat as well.

I’ve messed briefly with Sweep Nurbs, but I want to create solid tubes, not paper thin walls. I would like each layer of vein to be “solid”, that is have a thickness, so that when I boolean it you can see the wall thickness. Any advice or tutorials on how to start modelling this with in C4D? Or anyone have a pre-modeled cutaway like this?

    Thanks

You could use sweeps; just use Structure>Edit Spline>Create Outline to give your crossections “thickness”.

Another option would be to model it without thickness and then select all polys and extrude with “Create Caps” checked (R9+). If you’re using an earlier version of Cinema you can get a plugin called “Make Thicker” (free).
