  Can’t find the ‘Secret Menu’

  I’m having some trouble with running out of memory for my effects – specifically keylight and color finesse – it’s also having trouble with the image buffer. I’m using a MacPro 2 x 2.8 Quad core with 10 gigs of RAM

  I’m trying to find the ‘secret menu’ in CS3 – I hold down the shift key and i put the cursor over the After Effects drop down menu, (all the while holding shift) and bring it over the preference menu. i’ve tried a combination of things like bringing the cursor over the general menu and even pressing it and I still can’t seem to access the secret menu.

  I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what i might be doing wrong.

  You need to hold down Shift only until you get into the preferences. So shift-click, go to Edit > Preferences > General, then once the window comes up let go of Shift.

  Now click on the “Previous” button and there you are…shhh-ecret!

  on a mac, in addition to holding the shift key down, you also have to hold the mouse button down the whole time (kind of mac old-school-style). so, rather than click the ae menu, click preferences, click general, hold the mouse button down as you go through the menu to select a preference, then it will show up as ben describes in the preference window.
