dont get me wrong…i think particular is great with the way it works within AE.

but i ALWAYS end up using particle illusion for fire just because, while they arent totally convincing, the fire effects are BETTER than the effects i can achieve in particular.

are there any tutorials or ideas anyone has about making more realistic fire?

Ive been able to get particle illusions fire to look pretty darn real.
There are so many fire presets scattered all over Pi and each one is slightly different not to mention you can go in and manipulate them at the particle level. After that, I use some of the hundreds of ACTUAL fire clips I have purchased over time on the net.

Particle Illusion, to me, is a powerful but slow, and is not friendly
as you have to tweak you settings and re render and re render. It takes forever.

I dont want this taken the wrong way but frankly, a good eye and talent
is your best friend on this one.

    good luck

like i said…i’ve gotten better results in particle illusion as well. i’m more or less trying to find a way to get better results out of particular, because for certain applications, the workflow–as you mentioned– gets a little tedious going back and forth when i could just do it all in particular.

i dont want to sound difficult or anything, but to me, good effects work means occasionally having to add a tiny bit more complication to the workflow, as apposed to an easier flow that is difficult to use. I use particle illusion 90% of the time over particular BECAUSE i get the look I want FASTER and better. Trust me, I have tried particular a LOT. I love how clean a look you can get, but you need to be very skilled with it to get what you want quickly.
    my 2 cents

no no. i get it. i use particle illusion for most everything too.

my point is that particle illusion isn’t good for moving the 3d space. that’s all.

90% of the time i use it too. i was just trying to see if there was a better way to make better looking fire in particular just for the 3d applications.

I agree Hunter, I still do it in particle illusion by importing the footage from ae into Pi. and animating the scale velocity angles etc
to look 3d. I just have to mask off a few elements. Not Ideal I know,
but at least I get the look I want.

If you HAVE to have it done in Particular, I would google better fire in particular…. or something like that and see what comes up.

    good luck
