Hi! I am sourcing some stock footage from various videographers around the world for use in a software program my company created. The program is basically a very simplified NLE that allows the user to add their own personal photos and videos in with stock photos and videos we provide to create a final ‘montage’ style video. I am looking for some guidance in how to go about writing a release for the stock footage.

Essentially we would own all rights to the clips, to put in the software program and allow our customers to put in their own videos which they will be able to reproduce as many times as they wish, both physically and on the web, and sell to their customers. We would not resell the clips individually as stock footage. They would retain rights to the clips as far as using them for their own purposes, or selling them to other sources as stock footage, so long as that doesn’t interfere with our rights to them.

Can anyone offer some guidance as far as where to start looking for a release like this?

The words you are looking for is “You want to commission photography, a work for hire agreement.” This is expensive. For example, if you were to commission me to film some footage of Lake Tahoe (which is where I live) and for the rights you are asking, your costs start at about $10k.

Probably you might do well to talk to a specialist lawyer as this is central to your business.
