I have a Mac Pro Octocore with 8GB of Ram running Leopard. We bought CS 3 for this machine
but I am giving the CS 3 to our Graphics guy because I use Motion a lot more than I do AE. Will I get any functionality out AE 7.0 that I am getting in trade? It installed okay, and loaded a project without a problem. Will it be useful for a once a week type of use?

i would imagine that you will run into the same problems as running ae7 on an intel mac with osx 10.4…

so there are a couple of things you should do right off the bat. disable opengl in preferences>preview, then uncheck the box for ‘enable opengl’, otherwise ae will most likely crash every time you apply and opengl accelerated effect.

second, particularly if you don’t have a lot of ram, read this thread. it gives some recommendations on ram settings and some other tips/insights for working with powerpc applications on intel macs.

also, watch out when using any of the cycore effects (effects denoted by ‘cc’, like ‘cc fast radial blur’) that were bundled with the ‘pro’ version of ae7.
