Using all Processors/Cores when rendering
I’m using a MacPro with 2 x quad 3ghz processors (8cores in total) and 9gb of RAM, however i’m having difficulty setting up my computer to use all or the most possible to render, i am also using nucleo pro which seems to not like working with the multiprocessors enabled after effects.
i understand i cannot use all 8 cores, however is it possible to use 6 of them at least whilst working with Nucleo Pro?

Hi,
For Nucleo Pro to render using all processors, you need to shut off multi-processing in AE’s preferences.
I have a system with pretty much the same specs as yours and using Nucleo, I am able to use all 8 cores. Apparently you can reduce the number of cores Nucleo uses in its preferences so you may want to check to see that this is set to use all cores. (although when I have tried to do this, I have not seen any change in cpu usage – it still uses all 8 cores) You may want to check on Gridiron’s site for further information.

i don’t own nucleo, but i believe you can’t use nucleo with ae’s native multiprocessing enabled (and you wouldn’t need to). so try disabling ae’s multiprocessing.
also, you should be able to use all 8 cores, though you may want to only use 6 or 7 to allow other applications to use 1 or 2 cores… so you can surf the cow 🙂
i can give you setting that would allow ae’s multiprocessing to use all cores… enable multiprocessing, then go to the memory & cache settings and set the max ram cache to around 35-40%. that should divide your 9gb up nicely to give you around 1gb of ram per core.
for info on getting the most out of nucleo, consult the documentation… also, mr. rabinowitz did a review of nucleo pro about a year ago that may shed some light on the setup (click aharon’s face, then search for ‘nucleo’).
