    Hi
I am doing a little bit of experimenting with trapcode form. I would like to use an object from a C4d scene as a layer map for displacement purposes, does anyone know how to export my c4d project in order to achieve this?
    Thank you in advance
    J,.

All that form will be looking for are images that have RGB values, how it uses those RGB values and where you get them from is up to you. C4D will render out a variety of information encoded in RGB including Normals, Motion Vectors, UVW Texture Coordinates, and Depth. Knowing what you want to do might help you determine what you’ll need to render, and how to use that data in Form.

For example, you could use a render of the normals and map them to the Displacement section of the Layer Maps… Here’s a render of a test I did with a normal map I created in AE of a sphere:

Thank you Darby, your reply was very helpful!
I figure that if i export the depth information from C4d and use it as a displacement map for the z layer I will get the result that i am after.
    Thanks again

    A couple additional notes:

Make sure you render out of C4D to a 32bpc image, this will give you greater accuracy in the depth information. Once in AE, Form only works in up to 16bpc (which should be plenty for reasonably accurate results), still the benefits of having a 32bpc image could be valuable at another stage.

The property you’ll be using in Form for Z displacement is under Layer Maps > Displacement. Select Individual XYZ and assign the Z dimension to the layer with your depth information.

    Thanks again Darby
I can’t seem to get it right for some reason. my animation is a car driving in and out of the frame and i would like to have a form element (resembling a piece of mesh cloth appear draped and flowing in the shape of the car as if the car is driving through it
I use the depth info on the z layer map but it’s not working out. It just gives me the side view of the car .
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated
    sincerely

[jacques levet] “I use the depth info on the z layer map but it’s not working out. It just gives me the side view of the car .”

So you’re using the Displacement Layer Map Individual XYZ and using the layer for the Z displacement? That should work fine.

Try checking here to make sure you’re working in the right workflow:
