  • Corp/Industrial Clients?

Posted by David Cohen on October 13, 2005 at 3:10 pm

    Hi All,

I am sure this sort of post has been asked inumerously, but I figured I would ask anyway.
I have been designing motion GFX for TV mostly, and a few smaller commercial clients, but I would like to take on more (perhaps smaller, but more frequent) industrial/corprate clients. Aside from joining a local Chamber of Comm, which has had mixed responses lately from the forum, is there a few suggestions of alternate methods to tap into that client pool?
    Cheers

Find out which producers and production companies are serving this market in your area and hit the road with your demo reel – sell to them.

Only the largest clients will employ specialists directly, and those that do will keep them forever or until they screw up. Rarely do they experience overflow needs that cause them to look for additional talent.

OTOH, producers and production companies frequently are dealing with availability and capacity issues, as well as trying to find the right designer for a new client.

In my experience widening out what you do and who you serve will help smooth out the peaks and valleys.

Where are you located? Try to find an MCA-I chapter in your area. Have your business cards and demo ready. Lots of producers and production company guys out there. Be a partner to them…offer to do some of the overflow at a reasonable rate. You’ll get clients and if you’re good, you’ll get a lot more work.

I call it the wholesale market . Staging companies are prime for this. For them to sell the bigger gigs, content is king . In many cases the staging/AV company does not have the resources you offer in house. What they do have is sales people ,clients and an accounting department.

Take a stroll through the yellow pages , small to medium companies are best. Contact them and show them what you got.

The bonus is they get what you do.
