HTML Validation Explanation
I’m confused! Admittedly I am not a programmer but rather a graphic designer but it has been brought to my attention that one of my sites has a lot of ‘invalid web standards’ such as a centred table using 100% width!
My sites look good and work for the intended audience.
So my questions – what does invalid standards mean? Will next generation browsers drop a lot of invalid code? What real world purpose does validating serve?
I don’t mean to get anyone’s back up about this but it seems a bit grey to me…

well, technically there are standards for html that are set up and maintained by the w3c (https://www.w3.org), but html is an inherently a rather sloppy language – so while yours (and to be honest quite a large chunk of sites) html is technically “invalid”, if it works and parses ok in browsers then you are fine.
at some point it is feasible that invalid html will be deprecated, but that threat has been around for years and has yet to happen, so i think you’re safe for now…
