  Continuum Complete 8 – BCC Extruded Text Effect Question

  Greets,

  My question deals with Boris Continuum Complete 8, within Adobe After Effects CS5.5.
  
  Im using the “BCC Extruded Text” effect, and have no trouble with the effect itself.

  However, after exhaustive searching, both within the manual itself, as well as numerous
  Google searches, I still can not figure out how to get the, “Shatter” aspect of the
  effect, to occur, (where) I want.

  As default, applying the effect to the layer, starts the effect right at the begining
  of the layer.

  My scenario is, I want to have the text revealed for three seconds, and then have the Shatter
  effect occur.

  Any help how to achieve this?

  Hi Mike,

  The answer to this is to switch the filter’s Shatter effect Tome Mode to Manual instead Automated, and then keyframe the manual Time parameter value.

  • Enable Shatter effect by checking the Use Shatter option
  • Twirl open the Shatter Deformer group
  • Click on the Time Mode pop-up – switch from Automated to Manual
  • Go to the 3 second point in your comp and set a keyframe for Manual Time – leave the value at 0
  • Go to the end of the comp and set the Manual Time value to something greater than 0 (try 2 to start)
  • Play back the effect and revise the manual Time value to generate the look that you want

  Peter,

  Spot on, exactly what I was looking for.

  Funny that I could not find how to do this, perhaps the
  proverbial, “couldn’t see the forest for the trees” scenario.

  Still not sure why I couldn’t find fundamental information such as this in the manual.
