  • Extruded text issue with question marks

Posted by Neil Weaver on August 6, 2010 at 7:43 pm

    Hi,

I’ve just spotted that BCC6 extruded text hasn’t put the the period at the bottom of the question mark.

Anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hi Neil,

Can you provide more information regarding the system and font and point tize that you are attempting to extrude? In most cases, it’s a wysiwyg situation, in other words, the extrusion will be an exact match to the non-extruded text. If the point size of the text is small, have you tried using a larger font size? Have you tried switching to a different font?

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Pete, info as follows:

    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
    Memory: 12 GB

    Running FCP 6.0.6

Extrusion depth is set to 2
    Bevel amount 0.22

I’ve tried numerous different fonts, and playing about with the extrusion, materials, beveling and so on to no effect. The periods aren’t there. They are there however, in url’s eg creativecow.net and on exclamation marks. Very strange.

Hang on, I’ve just upped the font size from 36 to 40 and they’ve appeared. How odd!

    Hi Neil,

Thanks for the info – I’ll give it a shot right now on a similarly equipped system (if I can find one with that version of FCP – most are running 702 here) and let you know how it looks.

    More in a bit.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Yep – I see exactly what you are seeing, which is that at small font sizes the filter is ignoring the period on a question mark. At 40 pt and up the mark appears correct on my system. I think that for now we’ll simply have to use a font size that is larger than 40 pt for these symbols.

Thanks for bringing this up – I’ll log the problem in our database.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
