I use Vegas 8. I have Boris FX 9 and Grafitti 5. I’m trying to overlay animated text on a spinning cube effect (over whole image, not just the cube). In FX it says I need Red upgrade for all amimated texts. So, I’m trying to do it with Grafiti on a higher level track. How? Do I put a solid color on which I put the animation. Then how do I make the background transparent. Is there another way? I’m stumped.

Yea it’s not intuitively obvious in Vegas. You are correct in using anther video track higher up to host the text. What you have to do is insert an Empty Event on that track. Just right-click on the video track and select Insert Empty Event, then add Graffiti to the empty event. This should give you the desired effect.

    Thanks, John,

It worked perfectly. Out of curiousity, in Red can you combine titling and effects in the same effect when using Vegas. That would be much more convienient albeit expensive.

Yes, that’s what I love about RED. It’s a mini timeline with the Vegas timeline. You can layer multiple pieces of media, titles, FX etc. in a single event and then save them as a RED project or Vegas preset. Then you can easily apply them to any new project you have with one click.

This makes RED worth the price alone for me. I have spent hours keyframing FX in Vegas only to have to do it all over again for each and every project. With RED all of my keyframing and motion is saved as a single preset. Simply brilliant (and very productive).
