hey guys, im trying to imitate this effect from the first few seconds of this clip. the part where the text fades out into what seems like a track matte.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7E5n_sb3JU

i just dont see how to get the track matte to completely cover the text. also, i guess why i am confused is because it seems like there is smoke in the background. i wasnt sure if that is what was making the text fade away either.

any help or suggestions would be great.

There are several ways to do this. But this looks like a simple Fractal Noise used as a luma track matte. Blur it, then keyframe a Levels effect on the Noise layer to achieve the fade.

    Good luck with your project,
    Ben
