    Greetings all.

I’m looking to do a scene with the Smoke Monster from ABC’s LOST for a spoof I’m working on. See the actual clip HERE. (Note: this is not my video – I just searched for it. Please do not submit useful comments on YouTube, please comment on this thread.)

I am starting with Trapcode Particular’s t_SmokeDarker preset and it looks good “flying around” the screen, but I’m looking for the look of this clip. Mainly, getting the smoke to “billow” in a stationary position (something a little better looking than just extruding the Emitter on the Z depth) while still having the point at the actor’s face and spreading out behind without completely dissapating. Also, notice the little organic “wiggles” of the smoke from the overhead shots. (I think I know how I can fake this part, but I’m open to suggestions!)

Camera moves and such aren’t an issue. Just getting the particle generator to do what I want is driving me nuts.

    THANKS!

To be honest man I dont think you can get that exact look with particualr. If you want that “exact” look you will need to use Afterburn (A 3DS Max plugin). I did my best to work out particular to work that way but to no avail.

i know it’s not exactly helpful but at least it’s a point in the right direction.

THANKS! I guess I will either (a) stop messing with it in Particular or (b) tell my boss that we can only do so much 🙂

Thanks again for the assistance and for the time you took on this. If you know of somewhere that I can get some good COW-like tutorials on Particular, I would appreciate the knowledge.
