  • Need help creating 2D/3D shiny black floor

I am interested in recreating the effect found here:

    https://www.superfad.com/player.php?project=93&item=186

At roughly 11 seconds into this SuperFad video there is a basketball segment. The floor has a 2D look with clean white lines and a shiny texture with reflections. I would like some ideas as to the easiest way to achieve this.

Currently I am trying to use a birdseye view of a the field and lay it into Shake’s multiplane node, I then lay a paper texture into the scene in perspective and put a 17% opacity white gradient over the texture. This is very tedious and the lines of the field on some shots get really distorted in the Multiplane node and don’t look professional at all.

What are some other methods for achieving this effect?

    Thanks.

Maybe you should ask at the Shake forum:

Here are some AE 3D reflections:

Or if you want 2D in AE, use Corner Pin on a duplicate layer with reduced opacity.

Got a bit of cash to spend?

Then Zaxwerks has a new plug-in dedicated to reflections called, surprisingly enough, Reflector.

Looks pretty cool if you don’t want to do it yourself.

    All the best,
    Ben

I do have a post into the shake forum already, unfortunately no one has responded yet. I thought I’d give it a go over here and see what other ways there are to accomplish this “2D” floor effect. I’m willing to start over completely to get a professional look. This will be the highlight of my reel, and I put a lot of money into production.

I have a fellow animator building a 3D model in Maya; however, I was interested in achieving the 2D look as well (2 cuts of the same spot.) One is high contrast black/white (lots of roto’ing here to get desired effects) and the second cut with the 3D model is to be in color.
