    Hi all,

Working in AE and I keep getting random crashes and getting this error message:

    “Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xa081994e”

It’s mostly when I’m doing a RAM preview, but I also get it randomly when scrolling through the timeline. I’ve read in a couple of places this is likely to be a RAM issue? Does anyone know an effective way of testing the RAM in a Mac Pro?

It’s not new memory or anything, so is it possible that’s it’s just ‘gone bad’ over time?

    Thanks for any advice guys.

if you can find the original software install disks that came with the system (probably 2 gray dvds in one sleeve), then you can run the hardware test. directions to run the hardware test are printed on the first dvd label, usually you insert the dvd, reboot and hold the option key down. then choose the hardware test from the rather un-mac-like menu.

run the extended test to fully test the ram. unfortunately, it runs all tests and testing the ram takes a long time (several hours) depending on the amount of ram.

ram probably can go bad, it can get hot like any other electronic and that can effect it.

You could also use tech tools pro, https://www.micromat.com/

I ran the system check off the install DVD prior to installing leopard. My quad 3.0 ghz, 3 gb ram took about 2 hours to complete the test if I recall correctly.
