OT: Screen recording software
Hey,
At work one of my colleagues asked my to take a streaming newcast which featured her brother from a website and put it on dvd to send to her mother who doesn’t have a computer. My understanding of the process is this:
1. ‘Capture’ the streaming video.
2. Resize/convert to mp2v and mp2a.
3. Bring into DVD authoring app and burn.Steps 2 and 3 are easy; step 1 I have a few questions about the tools needed.
I read a few posts here at the Cow about ‘screen capture’ software; for the most part, this seems to be limited to doing single-frame image captures, I can already do this with the prnt scrn button and Photoshop. I think what I need is a ‘screen recording’ app to capture all the frames and audio.
One such program mentioned was Camtasia, but at $300 it’s a pretty hefty price tag to pay for all the extra features it has when most of them I can do with my other programs (Audition, After Effects, Premiere, etc.). I think all I need is a simple recording program that JUST captures a region and saves it to disk as an .avi (depentant on whatever codec I choose).
I’m looking for suggestions from experienced users (other than Camtasia) that have just enough features to get the stuff onto my hard drive that cost less than $300.
Take care,
Nick
