Gee guys, I can’t seem to tell any difference between using the unmult plugin or setting the layer transfer mode to screen.

Perhaps one of you might explain this?

    Thanks!

Unmult and other plug-ins like Xmult and Walker Effects Premultipy create an alpha channel for layer they are applied to, Screen mode doesn’t.

On a dark background you might not see much of a difference, but if you have an explosion or something similar you need to composite onto a bright background there’s a huge difference between unmultiplying and screening.

Without going into the math here: generally using Unmult gives the colors more ‘body’ and a less transparent look.
