  How to create intersect effect between 2 layers

  2 questions:

  1. I have seen the style of graphics where 2 solid layer objects, whether circles, squares, of similar color intersect and where they intersect it is a different color. How exactly is this done?

  2. I would also like to do something similar with regular layers (not solid color layers) so that when any two layers intersect, that intersecting area is then a solid color.

  thanks…yeah, I was able to do that, but what if I wanted to choose the intersecting color? And how could I do something similar using regular layers, instead of solids?

  You would need to be sly about that one (;

  You could pre-compose both of the layers you want intersecting, set one to use the other as an alpha track matte and then apply a Generate > Fill to it. Now you have a solid color wherever the two layers intersect, lay this composition over the originals and you should have the desired effect. If the layers are animated, they will need to be animated identically in the nested composition.

  Alternatively there may be a way to do this using some of the Channels effects, but I have a render going right now and can’t test this theory (;
