  Workflow suggestions for XDCAM abd AE

  I’ve been working with AE for years, but now we’re starting to break into the HD world, and several questions are coming up. In our shop, we will shoot most video with Sony XDCAM-HD gear, along with some HDV video. We edit on Mac with Final Cut Pro.

  First, both XDCAM and HDV are MPEG formats. If I know I’m going to use a particular shot in AE, will the native XDCAM codec work well in AE, or do I need to ingest with another codec? If we need another codec, which do you recommend? The way our system is set up right now, we ingest HDV video into Final Cut through a HDMI port. That means I can choose to import with whatever codec I want. Which codec works best in AE?

  I also have questions on composition resolutions, but I’m pretty sure the answer to my codec questions will also answer these resolution questions.
