transition under titles…. best practice?
The piece I’m editing has a doctor introduce himself (talking head style) while a title appears below. He then says “um” and swallows then continues with some good material.
I edited out the stutter and needed to smooth it over so I used a blur transition, then a quick flash to white transition because it looks better. But my question is, is it a good practice to leave the title up? Client wants the titles up for 10 seconds or so and the transition happens during that time.
My thought was to use a transition that is hardly noticed, like a blur. A dissolve looks weird, the white flash is cool but noticeable.

A freeze-frame with title, then dissolving to the live action, looks cool and intentional, plus hides the stutter. To pull it off you must use the same trick for every speaker, and every title, consistently. My rule of thumb for lower thirds is leave it up long enough to read twice at a “normal” speed.
