AVCHD vs. Quicktime/MP4 Encoding?
I am trying to choose a camera for one-man shoots where interviews and b-roll have to be shot under less-than-ideal conditions (“run & gun”, “backpack journalism”). The primary use here is doing news-style reporting from trade events, and editing for web delivery.
At about the $3K price point, the choice really comes down to the Panasonic HMC or HVX models vs. the JVC HM models. Overall cost of ownership is important, which is why I’d rather shoot on SDHC cards than P2. My question:
Is there a particular quality advantage to Panny’s AVCHD encoding vs. the QuickTime that JVC delivers?
The editing will be done primarily on Avids, so the ability to go directly into Final Cut is not a factor here. Any insights would be appreciated.
