If sound is not a factor, just use a lazy susan from the hardware store or Kmart, screwed to a thick board, power it from out-of-shot with a hand drill and speed controller (harbor freight or any good hardware store) or a single-speed power screwdriver.

Perry shows a video of how to build this on the digital juice website. You can build it in an hour. I would suggest for the power drive, clamp the drill driver and use a rubber ball epoxy glued onto a spade-type drill bit, and use friction against the rim of the board for the drive.

Another way for only 12 inches… would be to drop by any Goodwill store and buy an old record turntable. Dismember the tone arm. Disconnect the DC motor from the chassis and connect a transformer from a model train set, or a dimmer and a DC wall wart, instant variable speed control.

    Cool idea.
Digital Juice makes great products, but best of all they have all those great tutorials. Sure they hope you will buy their stuff, but the tuts are truly educational and useful.
We buy a lot of their stuff.
