  • rendering an uncompressed avi with ae cs3 on osx 10.5.2

I have a nice mac pro with both osx and win on there, however for our productions we need to render uncompressed avi’s (due to the broadcast software we need to play it back one (click fx, vplay) ) however I have no idea how to render it out as a avi that those programs can read.

the render queue has no option for avi, and I really dont wanna have to edit in osx, and render in pc.

any advice or codecs that would help?

if there is no export you can export a uncompressed qt then from qt export an avi “none codec”. there are issues exporting large avi out of qt (over2 or 4 gig’s) cant remember, but the file just wont export.? and there are really no good codecs for avi on mac except “none”..

    i know its irritating….

In other words, have you tried “file>export”?

yep, file>export should give you avi options, one of which is ‘none’ which i would assume is uncompressed…

there does seem to be a draw back to the export method (actually, there are a few), but the latest is that export doesn’t seem to be multiprocessor aware…. the render multiple frames simultaneously option seems to only apply to rendering and not to exporting, so exporting takes longer. so i you have a render heavy comp and several cores, it may be faster to render to lossless, then import the render and export the avi from that render…
