  50hz flicker correction

  So I know this issue comes up a lot (I just had a good dig around, and there are a bunch of people basically asking the same question but there’s a real paucity of [easy] answers. Probably for good reason.

  I just filmed some scenes under artificial light using a 60i HDV camera in a country where the voltage frequency is 50hz, so I guess I have a 10hz out of phase flicker on my images, that I would like to remove.

  Someone once suggested that [because the math here is easily understood and constant] it should be possible to do something in After Effects that will composite a luminance strobe over the top on my clip to complement the flicker and thus remove it.

  I’ve tinkered with the flicker filter in FCP 6 but that won’t remove it completely. Folks like GenArts do a pack of filters for AE, FCP and Shake that look promising, including a matte-based option for correcting selected areas that I really need in a couple of instances. However that set of is $600.

  I own AE7 and use it for simple tasks but I wouldn’t know where to begin with something like this.

  Anyone care to help me out with a easy ‘pre-packed’ set of instructions for AE (or FCP or Shake 4.1)?
