Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Stuttering motion on renders

Well, here we’re looking at 15fps movies, so we can’t judge the stutter from those clips.

Search the COW for “judder”. The only way out of it, keeping the exact same move, would be to render with fields. Anyway, do the search.

By the way, Animation-compressed movies aren’t likely to play back smoothly unless they are compressed to a different codec.

    No,

I was not aware of any. What is the difference?

I like to take the footage, interpret it, remove pulldown if necessary, then drag it onto the “new comp” button at the bottom of the Project window. This ensures that the new comp has the same settings as the footage. Of course, you can also lengthen the comp if you want.

Thanks Dave and Steve for your input. All of these shots are animated stills so there are no pulldown issues. Some of my comps rendered smooth and others juddery. When I inspected them The ones that were rendering juddery were set to 23.98 and the smooth ones were set to 23.976. Silly me, I thought AE would see that as the same fps number. I changed them all to 23.976 and now they work in my FCP timeline. Thanks to your input I have now solved the problem.
