  720P timeline to 1080i output

  Still using FCP 7… 😉

  PAL setup.

  So, I have a LOT of sequences that are shot and edited in 1080i25. Now, some of the footage/sequences are shot in 720P50. Final output is SD DVD.

  SInce I’d like to have all footage on the DVD as interlaced, how can I export my 720P50 timelines into 1080i25 ?

  Sure it does not have to be 1080i, just anything that matches the 1280×720 resolution will be just fine. I think that upscaling will give poor picture quality?

  turning progressive footage into interlaced requires creating new material,
  like making a shot slow-motion requires creating new frames in between the original ones

  I’m pretty sure Graeme Nattress had a re-interlace filter for FCP7
  there may be better tools available now.

  they do this when they find old film-recordings of Doctor Who, say, and want to make them look like the original video recordings.

  i wonder if one of the blackmagic terranex converters could do what you want?

  DVD is PAL so make your timeline SD ProRes 720 x 576 anamorphic 25i. From memory Fields Kit reinterlace plugin might convert the 50p into 25i.
