AE here. I’m having an issue with one of our machines suddenly dropping frames when trying to playback from the timeline.

Mac Pro running 10.6 – Final Cut Pro 7

    Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.93 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
    Memory: 12 GB
    Processor Interconnect Speed: 6.4 GT/s
    Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B07
    SMC Version (system): 1.39f5
    SMC Version (processor tray): 1.39f5
    Serial Number (system): H094918E20H
    Serial Number (processor tray): J594400G91LUE
    Hardware UUID: FEE3A021-6878-5C45-AC95-597340FB626E

Our media is on an XSan server.

All media is in Prores 422 Proxy and the timeline is set to Prores 422 Proxy

Even if I turn off the dropped frame error message, the lag is too bad, no one can work in that bay. Was fine a week ago.

    I’ve restarted the machine.
    Deleted render files.
    Switched internal scratch disks.
Switched from Safe RT to Unlimited RT.
    Turned off external video.
    Changed video playback settings.
Used Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on the media server, speeds are good.
Ran Onyx’s maintenance utilities on the machine.

The problem persists, in any project I open, regardless of which user is signed into the machine. Those same projects play fine in our other bays, which have their Final Cut’s set up identically.

Any suggestions for what I should try next?
