  Should I render these projects in 10-bit YUV or RGB?

  Hi, I’d really appreciate your opinion on the following please.

  For years and years, I’ve been editing weddings in Final Cut Pro 7.

  The timeline setting is Apple Pro Res 422 LT 1920×1080 25p 48kHz.

  The footage is a mixture of:

  Canon 7D DSLR footage (25p) converted to Apple Pro Res 422 LT

  and

  Sony EX3 XDCAM full HD (25p)

  Very little use of “effects”. Just a basic title, some dissolves, a flashframe here and there, and I use 3 Way Color Corrector to give the project a look I like.

  For delivery on Vimeo in HD, and on DVD, and a USB key in HD.

  I’ve always rendered for about 4 – 6 hours (over night) on a Mac Pro or a Mac Book Pro using these settings from Sequence Settings:

  

  Last night, I changed the setting to the following…

  

  By changing from 10-bit YUV to Render in RGB, the rendering time for a full project miraculously took just a few minutes. And the quality of the HD is still as solid as always on my Mac screen.

  What is happening here exactly?

  Should I do a test DVD and see what it’s like on a TV, and go with RGB for future renders, which would save me an ENORMOUS amount of time, or should I stick with YUV 10-bit rendering? Is there really much of a difference? So far I can’t see it. Thanks.
