Broadcast Safe Filter – Still Need One?
I have 2 questions regarding broadcast safe filtering:
1. Do we still need to do it with all the new TVs out there?
2. Do we need to do it for films that are being shown in theaters?If we don’t need it in theater copies, will it look better without the filter?

Yes. Network specs still require broadcast safe limits. brightness caps at 100 IRE, blacks at 0 IRE…etc. Show won’t pass QC unless you are in the required range.

Nope. Never have.

Yes…because your blacks can go really dark, and your brights much brighter.

One other question.
I’m using Final Cut Pro 6.8. Can I just make a nest of all the tracks and add one broadcast filter to that?
Or is it better to add a filter for each individual clip that needs it? -

That’ll make it broadcast safe without the filter. But the nesting idea is fine. Or just highlight all the clips and add it to everything. I personally hate nests…
