  • Trouble importing AI paths

Posted by Seth Hancock on February 19, 2008 at 10:53 pm

    Hey all,

I have not experienced this before so I am perplexed. I have a file over in AI with several paths. Whenever I try to cut and paste the paths from this .eps file AE locks up and I ultimately have to Force Quit. The AI layer is in RBG mode and not CMYK.

Do I need to convert this to an .ai document first and then bring over the paths? I have not had to do that before but perhaps someone knows a lot more about this than me. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Seth

My Activity Monitor is telling me that AE is using 100% of the CPU. This is just from importing paths???? Something must be wrong. Is there a way to test my RAM. I have 8 gigs.

I can send the AI file and comp if anyone wants to test. This is just a test comp with one solid and me trying to import paths.

It doesn’t seem like this would be the issue, but Adobe’s help files have this to say:

“To make the data copied from Illustrator compatible with After Effects, the AICB option must be selected in the Files & Clipboard section of the Adobe Illustrator Preferences dialog box.”

    There’s more information here:

    Darby,

Thanks for the reply. I have that box checked so I don’t know the issue. I do know that this is the only file of all that were sent that causes this problem. I need to talk with the creator about this file and see what we can do to revise it. All other files worked as expected.

It looks like it is just a glitch in this particular file.

    Thanks again.
