I have a song on FCP 7 that plays fine but there is a moment when it cuts out slightly. The song does not do this in iTunes. I have imported it again on numerous occasions but the song keeps cutting out at the same moment. Does anybody know why this is happening and how I can solve it?

Is it a AIFF or WAVE file? Or its it an MP3? If it’s an MP3 or AAC file, convert it to AIFF (48k, 16bit) and you should be good to go.

Jeff, thank you so much for this help, it was an mp3 and I changed it to AIFF and now it works!

Just out of curiosity, do you know why an mp3 file cuts out?

    Sure do!

FCP wasn’t built for compressed audio. Uncompressed audio is fairly precise; it’s exactly the same amount of data every second. But compressed audio? Ah, therein lies a problem; to compress information it (at times) has less information one second compared to another.

Most modern software (FCPX, Adobe Premiere Pro) ignore this nowadays; but you waste some (minimal) horsepower with on the fly conversion.
