• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  1920×1080 has borders on export

  Hey yall.
  I’m working in Final Cut Pro. I have footage at 1920×1080 Apple ProRes, square pixels, ~24fps.

  MAde the mistake of putting it into a 1280×1080 sequence and moved everything into a 1920×1080 sequence. Exporting at Current Settings or 1920×1080 Apple Prores HQ results in a SD-shaped image with black borders on the sides (in addition to the normal on-the-tops).

  This is footage that I already exported once from a larger project and am making into a short.

  Why am I getting those borders on the sides and not DVD/widescreen shape??

  Select the clips in the time-line and “Remove attributes: Basic motion + Distort.

  When you put the footage on the 1280×1080 sequence, the clips on the time line changed some attributes to match the sequence size/aspect ratio.
  If you look in the “motion tab” of the clips in the old 1280×1080, you will see that the Size is not 100% and that probably Distortion is not “0” for all his values.
  You have to restore these values and the easier way to do it all at once is “Remove attributes”.
  Otherwise you would have to go clip by clip manually changing those values.
