Compressor not using 1st frame of file
Hi This is probably a noobe question but I can not find the answer anywhere else.
FCP 7 exported as Quicktime files work and appear as expected.
When I process them, using Compressor 3.5, for iPad/iPhone4 or iPod/iPhone3 the initial image displayed on the target device is not the first frame of the file.
This is the image as seen on the selection screen.Sometimes it is the last image and sometime it appears to be a random image.
So – 2 Questions:
What is that image called?
How do I insure that it is the first frame of the file?
Thanks in advance. Any help will be appreciated.

I believe it’s called the “thumbnail” of the clip/sequence.
This is a SWAG (Silly Wild Ass Guess) but in Compressor there’s a slider underneath a QuickTime clip (but I don’t think it does anything with the direct FCP/Send to Compressor) – I think if you change the frame there, it may update the thumbnail.

I think you are referring to the “poster frame”. I don’t have compressor right in front of me now, but I don’t know if it can set the poster frame. If not, simply open the final file in Quicktime Pro, as it can set the poster frame.

Some time ago was a similar bug on sending things to Color and Compressor.
You might try to update your version.[Oakley Masten] “the initial image displayed on the target device is not the first frame of the file.”
When possible, Is a good policy start and finish videos with a bit of Black.

Thank each of you most sincerely for all of your help. After finding out that what I was looking for was the “poster frame” it was easier to find the help references.
It is really hard to ask technical questions when you don’t know the names of things.
First move to the frame you want to use as the poster frame.
The poster frame can be set in FCP by choosing markers – set poster frame.
It can be set in Compressor by clicking the small icon on the lower right of the viewer window. Choose set poster frame.
It can be set in iTunes by right clicking on the image and choosing set poster frame. Then the need to rewind to the beginning to get it to start from the first frame is the first frame is not your poster frame.I’m sure you all already knew this but I just learned it from you.
It would appear that you can not set the poster frame on an iPad. It has to be done using iTunes before uploading to the iPad.
So much to learn 🙂
