  • new MBP: 5400 vs 7200 system drive?

hi there – i’m gonna buy a new MBP and surveying opinion on whether to go for the smaller 7200rpm drive option or larger 5400rpm drive, as i don’t have a great sense of how much it affects overall performance.

will be using it with FCP 7.0.3, an external eSata drive, eventually a thunderbolt drive, with primarily ProRes 422 1920×1080 and XDcam footage.

    any advice will be appreciated!
    cheers

If you’ll edit off the OS drive ever at all, 7200rpm would be preferred.

If it’s a new MBP, won’t it have Lion on it? If so does FCP 7 run on Lion?

re: lion / fcp 7 – there seems to be some debate on that. couldn’t i downgrade it to 10.6.8 or have they made the new machines incompatibile with snow leopard?!

7200 RPM if you think you’re going to edit.

    FCP7 works on Lion.
