timeline finding footage from soundtrack
Probably a basic question but I havent found any references…
I have all the rushes and the FCP proj from another editor to compile a recompile of footage.
Where there was BRoll over the interviews he has seperated and deleted the interview image leaving only the soundtrack.Is there a simple way of getting the image back, rather than looking up the sound timecode, getting the footage and scrolling through to the right area and recutting?
a restore function maybe?thanks

Click on the audio portion. F to match the FRAME back to the original.
Probably the easiest thing to do is to insert a track below and overwrite the video. Lots of re-editing will have to occur.

Not sure i understood what you meant there. you mean it’s only resolved by manual labour?Anyway, what i did (for anybody who’s curious) to get the sound back when deleted from seq, is drag a fresh version of the whole broll sequence to timeline.
Low and behold a red line appeared on the Broll footage to show where the cut had came from. Blue and orange etc lines elswhere showing me other parts used elsewhere in the timeline.So all i have to do is find the right spots and chop the newly imported chunk with the sound track still attached. Time consuming but less that trying to find exact spots.
Heres a question as i’m trying to understand how the other guy did it; When i dragged the footage to the timeline I had to drag it to the Sound channels or the sound was not reimported.

When you dragged to the timeline, I’ll bet the track patching (the V+A) on the timeline has either no audio or the audio disconnected.
The method I talked about?
F = match frame. It’ll load the exact frame for video back in the view – not the one in the timeline, the original.Do this from the first frame of the clip on the timeline. Press X – the clip has an in/out on it.
Then press F (for match frame).
Then press I (in the viewer)
Then press the overwrite button.You’l have overwritten the clip on the timeline with the original clip + it’s audio tracks.

yep, link missing, that would explain it.
Ok the penny dropped! So before when I tried F because of the missing sound link it wasn’t putting the sound back with the image and I thought I was being dense…Cool, many thanks you’ve saved me hours!
