  Monitor Calibration

  Hello out there…

  Question I need to calibrate both my monitors for the color correction job I have coming up. I was looking into the Spyder3Elite by Datacolor for the calibration. Can anybody tell me if this would do the job, or if there is anything else?

  YOu cannot calibrate computer displays to show you proper video colors. The Spyder and other calibration tools are for GRAPHICS and PRINT work. Not for video. Besides, the FCP Canvas and Viewer are not designed to show you color accurate images.

  For color accuracy you need a video capture card (AJA, Matrox, Decklink) and at least a good HDTV. And to calibrate the TV…well, best to get the Matrox for that, it has a built in calibrator. Because TVs don’t have the settings used by pro monitors to balance properly. BUT, a capture card and a good HDTV will be far better than what you see in FCP on your computer display. More accurate.
