No 16×9 display
Posted by Mark Welch on April 11, 2011 at 12:50 pmI shot an interview in 16×9 HDV, captured it as such but the footage does not display in 16×9 in the viewer or canvas.
The sequence is set as an HDV sequence and I’ve even tried the conform to sequence function but everything is displaying as a 4×3 image.
This hasn’t happened before and I’m at a loss.
Any suggestions? Thanks

April 12, 2011 at 12:52 pmThe anamophic checkbox is not for HD of any sort. It would only work properly if the material was down-converted to SD by the camera or deck when capturing, due to improper menu settings. I suspect that’s the source of the issue in this case, and so checking the anamorphic box may display properly, but will cover up the real issue, which is that the material in FCP is now DV rather than HDV.

April 12, 2011 at 2:40 pmThanks guys – this insignificant project will go out 4×3. I’m now shooting exclusively 16×9 HD using AVVCAM to ProRes, so for me, it’s goodbye HDV, SD and 4×3 forever.

April 13, 2011 at 3:53 pm[Chris Tompkins] “There are HD formats that are anamorphic.”
But, as I said, the anamorphic checkbox comes in to play on none of them.
Anamorphic HD is completely driven by pixel shape, i.e. all full raster HD is square pixels, all anamorphic is non-square, and it’s those pixels shapes that automatically change the display.
