  editing codec coming from canon 5d 1080

  hi
  i try to edit my first music video inm fcp. i converted 5d footage with mpeg streamclip

  i tried pro res lt, but on my mac pro i constantly get slow disk warnings, even when just the audio file is playing (but the waveform is displayed). i have no idea what to do, i just want to start editing, ive got so much footage but i dont get the editing done.

  some setting must be wrong as on my macbook white (last model before unibody) it played even better…but i dont know which, im beginner

  some colleague suggested to use apple xdcam ex 1080p 25 (35mb/s) which makes noticeably smaller files.
  but arent more compressed files worse for editing? is the quality comparable to pro res lt?

  any help appreciated. i read some stufdf about offline editing and im not sure if it means a trickj to edit big fileswith a smaller preview etc

  OK, First of all,

  When you drop a clip into a new blank sequence, did FCP prompt you to let FCP change the sequence setting to best match your footage? If YES, then Good.

  Now, What hard drive do you files live on?
  Do you have a couple sata drives stripped inside the MacPro Tower?
  Ext. FireWire drive?

  You can’t (well you shouldn’t) have media on the OS boot drive.
  You can’t edit off an ext. USB drive.

  Your sequence settings must match your clip settings.

  i did try a fast internal, non-system drive after i first had it on a slower external 2.5 firewire drive. it didnt help

  yes, after dragging the clip into the sequence fcp prompted me to change the sequence setting

  i wonder if it has to do with audio sample rate, it maybe 44.1 while in the film its 48 khz. i didnt get a warning here. basically i dont need the video audio, just the regular audio. does final cut allow to convert the sample rate of the audio file or move the files the project is referring to from within fcp? or do i always have to go to soundtrack to change the sample rate or manually copy the files and drag them again into the project to use them from another drive?

  nevertheless its surprising it seems to work even better on the macbook (again with the extewrnal firewire 2.5 drive)

  i have no clue about how to set up fcp in a way that editing is easiest

  when i look at the new xdcam filesthey seem to have a bit lkess contrast and more noise than the pro res files after mpge streamclip conversion

  Unless you want to screw the picture, forget about further recompression.
  Buy HDs and work in Prores.

  now i dragged in a jpeg, before dragging it in i converted it to 1920×1080. it makes fcp hang.

  Make sure your stills are RGB in color space and not CMYK

  i read about alpha channels that have to be created inorder to have a logo overlay without a background, can this be done in fcp or is a helper prog needed.

  Drop it in the layer 2 and render.
