  FCP Audio issue encountered and fixed

  Thought I’d share…

  FCP 6, Snow Leopard, 27″ iMac etc.

  The project: PAL DV25, multicamera shoot, sequence about 2 minutes long, intercut with audio/video from other takes.

  The problem: after playing just fine since creation on Friday, the audio began playing up on Tuesday. Several problems exhibited themselves including: pitch changes, audio tracks getting out of sync, left channel playing, then the right channel playing, then none playing. The original files played back perfectly, as did the reference QT mov exported on Monday

  The solutions tried: restore project. Restart FCP. Restart Mac. Playback on Mac only (not out thru DV CAM deck).

  What worked: turned waveforms on (command-option-W).

  Why it worked: no idea.

  Not so fixed after all. The problem has popped up in a project that was also OK. Turning on waveforms didn’t work…

  Scrubbing through the timeline seems to have sorted things, but still no idea why.
