Media on primary or scratch
Hello. I have an iMac with a 2TB drive, and a WD Studio 2TB Firewire 800. I have been recording footage on a Canon 7D, the footage is 1080p. I have my SCRATCH disk set to the Firewire 800 disk (Which I assume is best) but my my actual .MOV files are on the iMac’s internal HDD. Am I better off moving those to the same disk as the scratch or are they fine on the internal HDD?

Edit on the Portable, unless you have more than 1 local drive installed.

Just to add a bit to what Anthony said (Hey Tony!) – basically it’s this – it’s dangerous for your OS to have media files – fill your main drive and you’re in trouble. Additionally the extra thrashing between the media, OS and FCP….it’s just best to have media on a different drive than your OS/FCP
Last – please tell me you have all that stuff backed up somewhere else, just in case of a drive failure, right?

Haha, yes I have plenty of backups. Ill keep scratch and media on a firewire 800 ext disk then. Im curious, would I notice a big performance difference if I purchased a RAID external firewire disk? Or for that matter an internal RAID? Thanks guys
