Setting up non-standard sequence dimensions
Hi there,
so I am trying to put together a video for a screen that will be broken into 3 parts – I’m compling some video for one of those parts.
The whole screen is 720 resolution, 1280×720 but the screen I am producing video for will be 976×544
Do I change my sequence settings in FCP to 976×544 or is there something special I need to do to make sure things fit properly?

976×544 is not really 16×9, although very close 976×549 would be).
If you let your 1280×720 picture “Fit to window”, you will get a very thin black line on top and bottom of your picture. It will be only two or three pixels wide, but may complicate the compression for the web.
Upscale just a little bit the picture to avoid this.

I tried to set up the sequence at 976×544 but it looks WAY too long

I then imported a PSD file set at 976×544 (DV NTSC Widescreen pixel ratio) to compare and you can see it off…

Hi Nicholas,
your sequence have HDPro Pixels.
Change it for Square Pixels.

Yes. Your canon shots Squared Pixels.
Of all the HD standards, only HDV, DVCproHD and some XDCAM flavors (HDV) use NON Squared pixels.
