De-interlacing problems?
Wondering if anyone could help me. I am new to FCP, i have finished putting together a video but when exporting to quicktime movie I am getting that ‘combed teeth’ effect which I believe is a problem with interlacing. This problem occurs when I export to ‘quicktime conversion’. I have chosen animation setting and H264 but still get this interlacing problem. I have checked the ‘de-interlace source video’ through options in the settings as suggested by a friend but still no good.
If I export the video by going straight to ‘quicktime movie’ and not ‘quicktime conversion’ I dont get the interlacing problem but the quality is not as good and is washed out. I am leaving settings as ‘current settings when exporting this way.
The original video footage was imported directly into FCP from my video camera and looks absolutely fine viewing in the programme.

this is an exact copy of your timeline.Quicktime conversion is never really recommended, better to export with current settings and then take into Compressor to encode to your final delivery codec.
The main questions are, what type of footage are you using and what are you sequence setting. Never post a “what is wrong” without that info.

I am using dv footage shot on a sony Z1 that I captured from my own camcorder straight into Final Cut Pro.
Sequence settings are –
Frame Size – 720 x 576 – Aspect Ratio CCIR 601/DV PAL (5:4
Pixel Aspect Ratio PAL CCIR 601 (720×576) Anamorphic 16:9 (this box is checked)
Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
Editing Timebase:25Quicktime Video Settings
Compressor: DV PAL
Quality – 100%Audio Settings
Rate: 48KHZ
Depth: 16-Bit
Config: Channel GroupedOne other question, What is compressor? Does this come with FCP?

Compressor is an app that comes with FC Studio and it is for compressing. You have more control over quality with it. For De-interlacing it does a much better job.
You really cannot just DV footage on a computer, that footage is meant to be viewed on a TV only. So do some short test with exporting as Current Settings and then to your delivery codec with Compressor.

Sorry for all the questions but new to this. I take it I export as quicktime movie first and then bring into compressor and then export from there?
Or do I export using compressor directly from FCP?
Any advice on what codec to use would be greatly appreciated too.
