  • Backing up “Capture Now”

We’re going to be capturing live, regular conference presentations that last about an hour. I’ll be capturing through FCP Capture Now function. We are going through a DVCAM deck to get FW coming into the Mac.

The boss doesn’t want a tape backup but instead an outboard device capable of simultaneously backing up by capturing a single video file in real time. What video drives are compatible with Mac? I don’t think Datavideo is compatible and the AJA mini KiPro is beyond our budget.

    Any cost effective alternatives?

    Thanks

Sounds like a mirrored raid might be the best solution for your media drive.

Not doing a tape back up is flat out stupid. Even if you have a Raid 1 setup, if anything happens to the capture the entire file is lost. Makes no senses whats so every to not be recording to tape.
