  Importing MOV files and keeping quality

  When I import an animation logo MOV file into FCP Express, and try to enlarge the text, I loose significant quality.

  How can I enlarge the file in

  What are the dimensions of the Animated text file?

  What is the ‘size’ of your FCE project? 1080?

  Whenever you scale a movie “up” (make bigger) it will become ‘pixelated’, which visually reduces quality.

  Good rule of thumb is to create graphics at the same size (resolution) as your FCE project.

  You’re best off if you can create the logo video at the same settings as your sequence and not have to resize anything.

  Also, you mentioned Final Cut express and “text”. Is the logo just simple animated text? Could you do it in LiveType (at the same resolution as your sequence) and bring it in that way?

  It was sent to me a second time, this time in the size 1280×720 which is what i’m working in
  it is a little larger than the original but still when i try to make it larger i loose quality

  I imported the video footage in 1080i

  and this was a flash file i believe that was exported into a MOV file
  it’s basically a logo w text and a rotating circle

  is there any thing else i can do to preserve quality if I make the MOV file bigger?

  Well, flash is degraded anyway, (remember flash is for the web, so quality is decreased)so you’re kinda stuck form the get go.

  Moving from 720 to 1080 is an obvious scale up in size. No way around that.

  Can you get the original flash file exported at a higher resolution? Again, this won’t help much if the graphics WITHIN the flash file are small to begin with.

  Short of doing the animation from scratch, or finding a way to have the logo smaller on the screen, I think you’re stuck.
