  How to avoid rendering on Final Cut Pro

  So I’m having a major issue here. I currently have Final Cut Pro 5.1.6 the Educational version, and I want to edit footage that is in the .mts file format. I was able to download a converter and convert the files to AVI, but the rendering made things too slow, and the sound kept coming in and out. Then I tried converting to MOV, and the sound was better, but it was even slower at rendering everything. Is there anyway I can convert the .mts files to a format that doesn’t degrade the quality and can be placed in the Final Cut timeline without having to be rendered. I’m using a Mac Book Pro, it’s 4 years old, and spending a lot of money to fix this problem is not an option.

  That is like saying I have a car what tires do I need.

  You need to make the .mov with a codec that works well with FCP. For HD probably AIC or DVCProHD. for SD DV, DVCPro50 or 8-Bit Uncompressed.
