Log and Capture unable to initialize capture device
I’m trying to digitize from tape shot on Canon IL H1 to fcp 6.0.6. Easy Setup set to Format: HDV, sequence preset HDV – 1080p30, capture preset HDV, Device control preset: HDV firewire.
And I’m getting this message:
Unable to Initialize Capture Device
Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips.
This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.Can anyone advise?

What comes to mind is the camcorder settings. You can do things like down convert HDV to SD, for example, which would give you this sort of error message, so check whether the setups in the camera’s menu match those on the computer.

Thank you for the response and that is exactly what the issue was. Once the settings on the camera was reset to hdv, it worked fine. Interestingly, firewire needs to be unplugged before the menu on the camera is activated.
