Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me out – I’m kind of a beginner in Final Cut Pro, and most certainly a beginner in animation. I’m working on a project that I need done next week and it’s an animation.

I made all of the objects that needed animating on paper, scanned them, adjusted them in PS and imported them into FCP. All has been going well so far, except I am having difficulty with the facial animations, specifically the eyes and the mouths.

I imported different expressions for different reactions the character’s have during the animation. I’m using wireframes and keyframes, and everything looks fine when I scroll along the timeline or go frame-by-frame, but when I do a playback, the mouths and eyes are always in a direction slightly different from where I’ve put them. I’ve tried rendering the images, and that doesn’t seem to be the issue.

Obviously, this is no good, as my characters cant have facial features flying off of their faces, but I’m unsure how to fix it. I seem to be doing everything right, but playback’s not picking it up. If it helps to know, sometimes the wireframes are not appearing directly over the mouth or eyes that I’ve imported, and above or below them, and I’ve been adjusting them from that. I’ve also tried adjusting them from the motion tab though, and the problem persists, so I don’t think it’s that.

Thanks for any help in advance!

    Hi Luke,

Before you assume that it’s not working, please EXPORT a small section to quicktime, then review.

Unfortunately FCP will shift, color, size, placement, etc. slightly during playback to give you realtime performance. I’m sure your problem is only during transitions, when FCP is dealing with a lot of throughput.
I dealt with this on a project last week, no matter how I rendered the Timeline, it was still playing back incorrectly. Exported the movie of the transition-looked great.

    Good Luck,

    Todd,

Thanks for the advice, you were completely right. Unfortunately, things got screwed up even more – even playback warped the files. I think it’s simply because I had so many layers to animate, which I should have taken care of in PS, but since I’m not near as familiar with that software as I am with FCP, I did it there instead. Luckily I was able to fix it. Thanks for the advice!
