export codec fcp to color
Hi,
I have fcp studio 2; I’m editing a short piece destined for an artist’s website and I have two formats; 1920 x 1080 xdcam ex, and 1920 x 1080 hd converted to apple pro res. Having sent my timeline to color (my first foray) it became scrambled, and having watched walter biscardi’s useful tute on preparing for color I’ve baked all my slo mos etc. My question is, since I’ve now discovered that color doesn’t like a mix of formats, should I convert the Ex material to apple pro res, and what is the best way to do this? I’ve set my timeline to Apple Pro res, but I gather from trawling through various forums that I have to change the media itself? Many thanks for your advice. Sal

Easiest thing to do is simply send two timelines to Color then render everything to ProRes on the way out.
Put all your ProRes material into one timeline, grade and render back to ProRes, send back to FCP.
Put all your XDCAM into another timeline, grade and render out to ProRes in Color, send back to FCP.
Put all your media back together into a master timeline.
