I have looked for this specific problem but have failed to find it.

I am doing a small job for a client, but this sort of thing is not my core business, so I’m technically am not good enough to understand all the issues I’m facing.

    Client supplied MPEG-2 footage.
I have Wondershare Video Converter Pro (not too impressed – no controls to speak of)
    Converted to mp4.

    Imported into FCP.

Problem is, getting classic deinterlace look – jagged lines. But I think the problem is at the MPEG-2 conversion stage and I have no control over that.

    Any ideas?

I have a Intel Imac and FCP 7.0.3

    Output will be H264

EDIT: WOOPS. Ah, have just worked out that some controls on Wondershare are there but not accessible on drop-downs…

    My bad

You want to use MPEG Streamclip, not wonderbread ideo convertor, and convert it to a proper (suitable) edit codec … DV50 would probably suffice.

For anyone who finds themselves in the same place, Uncompressed 8 bit output from the Quicktime options worked a dream

[Bill Grist] ” Uncompressed 8 bit output from the Quicktime options worked a dream”
That’s the optimal codec for any 420/8b stuff conversion.
